I am a long time Islanders fan and a former goalie myself. I grew up with Billy Smith as my favorite and I didn't have another favorite until came to the Islanders. I liked your style of play as a goalie. I wish you all the best with your future. |

Hi Kevin. I'm a huge fan of yours. I was wondering if you could share some insight on how technology has changed in the NHL and how it affected you as a goalie? Also how did you find the transition from player to commentator?
Thanks |

Hi Kevin,
I really enjoy your comments, insight, etc during the NHL telecasts. You do a great job. Your certainly found a home away from the ice.
To my point.
I have had Flyers and Phantoms season tickets from day one for both teams. I also travel to many ECHL games in nearby Trenton and Reading. The point I am trying to make is that I have attended thousands of games and I have seen many great goalie performances in all leagues.
I remember you with the Carolina Monarchs playing the Phantoms in Philadelphia probably in the early nineties. I believe the Phantoms totally overpowered the Monarchs that night scoring I believe maybe 10 or so goals on you getting some 56 shots. I will never forget your performance, your team was nowhere to be found but you were spectacular. Even though you gave up 10 or so goals the Spectrum was a buzz with your performance. It was unreal. The Phantoms could have scored 25 goals that night if it wasn't for you.
Your performance has to rank in my top 10 of the thousands of games I have attended.
Do you remember the game? I certainly do.
Take care and great success,
Bob Artese |

It's good to see that you are doing so well in your new career. Although it's been several years since you were with the Islanders, I still miss those little hockey talks we used to have while I was serving you breakfast. best of luck in all you do!!! |

Kevin, quick story! may oldest son (6) is dead set on becoming a goalie!! this comes after seeing a program on the nhl network featuring you from when you were young, up through your career. Since then he has acquired pads and goalie stick and has been bugging me for a blocker and a glove and a mask! So the other day after practice at our local rink there is this new hockey shop and as were walking by my son stops dead in his tracks!! through the window he sees proped up on the shelf a blocker and a glove well i can't get him out of there unless we go in so we step inside and i ask the guy behind the counter to see the glove, so i hand this glove to my son. his wide eyes looking at this thing and he blurts out hey it's KEVIN WEEKES GLOVE!! (blue and silver) must be from the NY days, won't tell you if i got it for him but i wanted to tell you how much an inspiration you are and the impact you made on a young mans life!! thanks |

Saw your comments on the CBC website. They brought back memories of watching you in goal for the Greensboro Monarchs. The talent was obvious, even back then. That was a really fun team to watch with a number of NHL caliber players. It's odd the things you remember years later, but one night something happened on ice and you threw your glove up in the air and nearly hit the scoreboard. Considering how high above center ice it was, that was no small feat. The referees were less impressed.
Good luck with "Hockey Night In Canada". It's a shame you didn't get a fair offer to play this season, but I think you'll have a bright future in broadcasting.

Dear Kevin Weekes,
Hi, my name is Kelsey Cabana. I am a huge fan of you, also I am a HUGE Devils fan, too!!!! I am 13 and from New Jersey. I started being a Devils about a year ago I went to my first Devils game, it was a pre-season game, I remember the Devils were playing the Capitals, and you were in goal, I think about that game all the time! I was into hockey when I was little, I played on a hockey team for a while but then I stopped, I don't know why i would stop, hockey is the best sport ever! I am starting up hockey again, right now i am working on my hockey skills with a trainer, but i will be starting up soon, I am so excited!! I have one sister, Kate, who is a freshmen in college, and two brothers, Kyle, who is a senior in high school and Ryan, who is a freshmen in high school. My brothers and sister and me all played hockey when we were younger, now only me and my brother Kyle play hockey.
I love hockey because I love the energy you feel when you are at the arena cheering on your favorite hockey team! There is not one dull moment in hockey, you don't stop moving! Some of the little things are fun to watch in hockey, like I love when it is the beginning of the the game and the players just come out and the goalies scratch up the ice with their skates, I love the marks they make in the ice and watching them go swiftly back and forth in the goal.
I am a huge fan, and had so much fun watching you play on the Devils last year!
From your fan,
Kelsey Cabana

Kevin: Read Edmonton Journal article about you this weekend and am always excited to read about Barbadians doing well and excelling around the world. I am married to a beautiful bajan now for 29 years and consider myself bajan if only for the fact of the copious amounts of Banks Beer and Mount Gay rum I have consumed. Just wanted to let you know that you have a great future on HNIC and great to see all you are doing for the community in Canada and especially Barbados (do not lose touch with your roots). I can tell your parents have done a fantastic job in raising you. I will toast you with a cold Banks in December when I touch down in Bim. Keep up the great work, look forward to seeing you on tv, and who knows maybe in Barbados some day.

P.S. my wife grew up on Passage Road. |
